Clear and engaging scientific communication is an important skill for all scientists to cultivate. The Young Scholars Conference focuses on empowering individuals of all underrepresented genders to effectively present themselves and their data in any career endeavor.

Redefining Young Scholars

What is YSC? The mission of the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity at Brown is "building on distinction", to build on the historical distinction of Brown University and to grow an even better and brighter university in the 21st century. Like Brown, the field of scientific research has historically held a badge of prestige. The Young Scholars Conference aims to improve upon this by uplifting womxn to encourage lasting diversity within the sciences, while providing all under-represented genders with the skills necessary to ensure that their scientific research continues to be widely understood and respected.

Brown's strategic plan emphasizes the value of developing an academic community that embodies the social and intellectual diversity of the world. The University is committed to this vision with the goal of positioning Brown to achieve the highest level of academic excellence and to prepare our students to thrive and lead in the complex and changing settings they’ll encounter after they graduate.

The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) is a critical leader in supporting these goals at all levels of the University.
